Finnish President Sauli Niinisto (pictured) underscored on Thursday that Helsinki will not recognize the results of "illegal" referenda in the Russian-occupied regions in Ukraine aimed at joining the Russian Federation.

"The so-called "referenda" do not affect Ukraine's borders, they don't change the map. Ukraine's sovereignty and territory are indivisible and inviolable," the Finnish president stressed on his Twitter page.

The results of the held referendums in Ukraine showed that all four regions voted in favor of joining Russia, with the European Union warning to impose sanctions against those who "organized and facilitated the sham referenda" in the occupied regions.
