Russian President Vladimir Putin has had a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani in which the two leaders affirmed their commitment to Iran's nuclear deal, Kremlin said on Tuesday in an official statement.
"The parties confirmed commitment to the consistent implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action for Iran’s nuclear program, which is important for maintaining global peace and stability," the statement noted. Putin and Rouhani also talked about the importance of maintaining good bilateral cooperation between the two countries while also commenting on the current crisis in Yemen and Palestine.
"The parties pointed to effective cooperation between Russian, Iran and Turkey on the Astana platform," Kremlin stated, adding that Russia and Iran "expressed readiness to continue coordinating their steps to promote the platform and put new issues on the agenda."
Over the weekend, Rouhani slammed the United States for "shamelessly" threatening Russia in the latest Nuclear Posture Review.
