The murder of the journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul was discussed on the phone between Saudi Arabia's king Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kremlin press-service said on Thursday. During the call, the royal also invited Putin to visit Riyadh, the statement added.
This marks the first time Moscow has officially brought up the issue in its contacts with the Middle Eastern kingdom, while Western countries expressed serious concerns over the killing. None of Russia's representatives canceled their attendance at the investment conference in the Saudi capital earlier this week, in contrast to business leaders and politicians from the West.
