Russia sanctions TikTok over data access

EPA-EFE/ALLISON DINNER

Tagansky District Court of Moscow fined TikTok for limiting access to information, TASS reported on Friday.

The court imposed an administrative fine of 3 million rubles (approximately $30,000) for violating the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation concerning the procedure for restricting access to information and information resources.

The action comes following the increased scrutiny of TikTok's operations around the world, and after the social media giant blocked Sputnik's and RT's (Russia Today) accounts in September.
