Meta to begin training AI with EU user interactions

EPA-EFE/CRISTOBAL HERRERA-ULASHKEVICH

Meta Platforms Inc. announced on Monday that it will start training its generative AI models using public content shared by adults across the European Union platforms.

The announcement includes public posts, comments, and user interactions with Meta AI. EU-based users will be notified of the update this week and allowed to object to their data being used.

The move follows Meta AI's European launch in March and aims to improve how the AI understands regional languages, humor, and cultural nuances. Meta emphasized that no private messages or content from users under 18 would be used. "We believe we have a responsibility to build AI that's actually built for Europeans," the company stated in a press release.
