Russia's President Vladimir Putin told the Rossiya-1 TV channel on Sunday he could not imagine the United States military inspecting Russian nuclear facilities while backing Ukraine.
"On top of everything else, when they're doing what they're doing in Ukraine today, I just can't imagine that American servicemen will roam around our nuclear facilities," Putin said, calling the possibility of such moves "ridiculous."
Putin's comments came just a few days after the country suspended its participation in the New START, the last remaining nuclear treaty between Moscow and Washington. Key to the treaty's enforcement was mutual inspection.
