Putin to sign 'preventive measures' in response to oil price cap

ND THE LUHANSK PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC (LPR).

Russian President Vladimir Putin (pictured) said Thursday that he will sign a decree with retaliatory measures in connection with the recently approved oil price cap. "I think I will sign it sometime on Monday or Tuesday," Putin told reporters, adding that "these are preventive measures."

At the same time, the president stressed that the goal is "clear to Russia's opponents," namely "to limit the revenues of the Russian budget," but Moscow "loses nothing from such a cap." "There is no loss for the Russian energy and fuel sector, for the economy, and the budget," Putin added.

Finally, among the new measures, Gazprom will not buy gas and services from joint ventures with the Austrian OMV and the German Wintershall Dea at a price above the one set by the Russian government by October 1, 2023. "The attempt to regulate prices administratively will not lead to anything good in the gas sector, just like in the oil industry," Putin concluded.
