Yemen's Houthi movement attacked two commercial ships in the Red Sea on Monday amidst a surge of such incidents in the regional waters, according to the US military.
The USS Carney reportedly responded to the distress call after the Swan Atlantic, an oil tanker flying the Cayman Islands flag, fell victim to a one-way attack drone and an anti-ship ballistic missile launched from a Houthi-controlled area in Yemen. In a separate incident, the M/V CLARA, a commercial vessel, reported an explosion in the water near its location, though no subsequent support request or damage report was made.
According to CNN, the Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for both attacks, alleging links to Israel. The claim was reportedly denied by the Norwegian owner of Swan Atlantic.
