Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday defended Iran's right to a peaceful nuclear program, speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. He noted that uranium enrichment for civilian use falls within Tehran's rights, despite Israel's security concerns.
Putin expressed hope that countries in the region and the Global South could help de-escalate the conflict between Iran and Israel. While he emphasized Russia is not acting as a mediator, he confirmed ongoing contact with leaders from Iran, Israel, and the United States, and mentioned Russia had made suggestions to all sides.
He reiterated Moscow's stance that one country’s security must not come at the expense of another's. Without disclosing details, Putin said a mutually acceptable solution is possible
