Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Russia is "completing the defeat" of the Ukrainian military in the Russian region of Kursk. Ukraine captured part of the region in 2024 and has recently been under pressure from Russian forces seeking to regain control of it.
Putin said Russian troops have recently carried out a "series of rapid, rather daring, effective operations" in Kursk. He also instructed military prosecutors to identify, record and investigate alleged Ukrainian war crimes in the region, insisting that all those who committed crimes against Russian civilians must be punished.
