Russian President Vladimir Putin warned on Thursday that his country will respond appropriately if Ukraine gets nuclear arms from the West, adding that Russia will not allow Ukraine to become a nuclear power.

"If the country with which we are essentially fighting now becomes a nuclear power, what should we do? In that case, we will take and use all, I want to emphasize this, namely all the means of destruction available to Russia - everything. We will not allow this to happen," Putin said at a press briefing.

The Russian head of state further emphasized that the country's military is ready to respond to any "act of aggression," insisting that there is "a tool" for every goal.
