Negotiations on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages held by Hamas are ongoing in Doha, but rumors of a ceasefire before Christmas are "speculation," Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majid al-Ansari said on Tuesday.

"We will not leave any door unopened in pursuit of reaching an agreement," the spokesperson stressed at a press conference.

Additionally, he urged the international community to lift sanctions against Syria as there is no reason for them to remain in place after the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's regime.
