The annual technology conference in Barcelona known as Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 saw announcements from the world's leading giants in the technological sector, with innovations ranging from Lenovo's transparent laptop to Samsung's Galaxy ring, and Motorola's wrist smartphone.
Xiaomi introduced its groundbreaking imaging flagship the Xiaomi 14 series. Leading this lineup is the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, featuring a revamped user interface named Hyper OS, along with advanced artificial intelligence capabilities. Priced at €1,499, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is available in black and white colors, offering a 16GB/512GB storage variant. The standard Xiaomi 14 model, available in black, white, and jade green options, starts at €999. Both models are powered by the potent Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor. In addition to the smartphone lineup, the Chinese company premiered its latest tablet, the Xiaomi Pad 6S Pro, along with the Xiaomi Watch S3, Xiaomi Watch 2, and Xiaomi Band 8 Pro. The company displayed its first-ever electric vehicle (EV) SU7 in Barcelona equipped with Hyper OS technology, with the feature enabling the car to seamlessly integrate Xiaomi's various smart gadgets.
Lenovo took the stage to unveil its latest technological innovations, introducing the ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop, a 17.3-inch notebook featuring a Micro-LED transparent display. Additionally, the company released its newest generation of business laptops, which includes the ThinkPad T14 I Gen 5, ThinkPad T14s Gen5, ThinkPad T16 Gen 3, ThinkPad X12 Detachable Gen 2, and ThinkBook 14 2-in-1 Gen 4. These laptops will all be powered by the latest Intel Core Ultra processors and feature a physical Microsoft Copilot key positioned between the right Alt and CTRL keys to enable users to quickly access their AI companion.
The South Korean tech giant Samsung also joined Xiaomi and Lenovo in showcasing its cutting-edge innovations at MWC, providing users with an exclusive glimpse into its artificial intelligence (AI) across a spectrum of Galaxy products, such as the Galaxy S24, Galaxy Book 4, Galaxy Watch 6, and Galaxy Ring. Honor, which clinched 45 awards from different global media outlets, also flexed its new suite of smart devices for global markets, including Honor Magic 6 Pro, a 5G smartphone with a starting price of €1,299 featuring 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, as well as the 16-inch FullView display laptop MagicBook Pro 16, equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor.
Motorola's bendable smartphone, which allows it to be worn as a bracelet around the wrist, grasped the attention at the event, with the Lenovo-owned brand's 6.9-inch OLED screen smartphone doubling as a traditional smartphone when unfolded. ZTE Corporation also debuted its first-ever flip phone, ZTE Nubia Flip 5G, powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip. Priced at €552 (~$600), it positioned itself as a more budget-friendly choice among foldable phones compared to models from Motorola and Samsung.
