United States Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao held talks on Thursday regarding the countries' economic and trade relations, the US Department of Commerce stated on Friday.
During the meeting, Raimondo conveyed her nation's intention to collaborate with China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism to enhance relations between the two nations. She emphasized that "protecting national security is not negotiable" and clarified that US export controls were not designed to constrain China's economic advancement but to prevent "technologies that have clear national security impacts."
Previously, China's Ministry of Commerce disclosed an agreement by both parties to convene the inaugural official meeting of the Commercial Working Group in early 2024. Both sides supported trade and investment promotion activities and aimed to strengthen cooperation between Chinese and US enterprises.
