British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves underlined on Wednesday that the United Kingdom is "ready to remove trade barriers" with the United States.
"There's certainly a deal to be done ... We have a balanced trade between our two countries ... What we hear from the US administration is that they are keen to do a deal with the UK," she said while speaking at the Semafor World Economy Summit. Reeves underlined that the trade needs to be "free" and "fair." She noted that there is so much more that London and Washington can do beyond tariffs in various segments.
She later spoke to reporters, underlining that the UK food and automotive safety standards and digital services policies are non-negotiable. "We are not going to change our standards based on asks from foreign governments," Reeves stressed.
