Belarus will very likely join the conflict in Ukraine on Russia's side in the near future, CNN reported on Tuesday, citing sources from the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Meanwhile, former Ukraine's General Staff Deputy Chief Ihor Romanenko told Al Jazeera that the crisis-hit country believes the plan is to have Belarus help Russia seize the capital, Kiev. "Understandably, [Russian President Vladimir] Putin thinks that if the capital is taken, the matter will be solved at once and in principle," he said.
Earlier this week, another source from NATO told the media that "the Belarusian government is preparing the environment to justify a Belarusian offensive against Ukraine and the imminent deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus."
