Report: US Senate targets Russia's gold reserves

In a bipartisan effort, four United States senators will announce legislation that will aim to prevent Russia from selling its gold reserves, Axios reported on Tuesday.

An unnamed aide briefed on the plans told the media outlet that the measure will likely be added to the omnibus spending bill that is expected to pass the upper chamber of US Congress by March 11.

Russia has around $132 billion in gold reserves, according to the report, and could use it to alleviate the impact of harsh sanctions against the country.
