Republican support for Jan. 6 Capitol riot grows

The number of Republicans supporting the attack on the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, is rising, according to a CBS News poll. The approval for the riot has grown to 30% among Republican respondents compared to 21% in January 2021. Across the political spectrum, 78% of respondents said they disapprove of the riots, while 22% approve.

Only 51% of surveyed Americans expect future election losses to be accepted peacefully, while 49% expect "violence over losses." 70% of respondents feel US democracy is threatened, while 30% think it is safe. Meanwhile, 81% of Democrats, 44% of independents and 10% of Republicans said former US President Donald Trump's name should be taken off the GOP primary ballot. The poll included 2,157 adults and had a margin of error of 2.8 points.
