Billionaire investor David Rubenstein said on Friday that "no one outside of the [former United States President Donald] Trump's family predicted" that he would be indicted four times and that his popularity "would soar to the point where he has a reasonably good chance of locking up the Republican nomination by March."
"If he is nominated, it would be the first time ever that the Republican Party has nominated the same person three times in a row. He clearly has a following that many of the analysts missed and I don't think any of the court cases are likely to change his momentum," the billionaire said during a World Economic Forum panel, noting that he is a "serious political force."
Nonetheless, Rubenstein stressed that current US President Joe Biden shouldn't be discounted. "It will be a relatively close election," he remarked.
