United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio joined Israel in condemning French President Emmanuel Macron's decision to recognize the State of Palestine in September, stressing that Washington "strongly rejects" this move.

"This reckless decision only serves Hamas propaganda and sets back peace. It is a slap in the face to the victims of October 7th," Rubio said on X in an expectedly sharp rebuke of Macron's plan.

His comments came after those of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said the French leader's decision "rewards terror" and "risks creating another Iranian proxy."
