Rubio: US goal to make invading Taiwan costly for China

United States Senator from Florida and President-elect Donald Trump's pick to be the next secretary of state Marco Rubio said the US should aim to discourage China from invading Taiwan by making sure the cost of the invasion is "too high" for Beijing.

Rubio hinted that China could ultimately manage to take Taiwan but stressed that Washington should seek to convince the government in Beijing that the cost of such a victory would be too high to pay. He also stated that the incoming US administration must aim to prevent "a catastrophic military intervention in the Indo-Pacific."

"We're gonna have to deal with this before the end of this decade," Rubio concluded.
