Russia and Iran agreed to guarantee that they will not enforce sanctions imposed directly or indirectly against either of the parties, according to the stipulations of the newly signed strategic partnership treaty in Moscow on Friday.

The provision of the treaty obliges Russia and Iran not to abide by "coercive measures" imposed on them by a third party and voiced their opposition to "the use of unilateral coercive measures, including those of an extraterritorial nature, and consider their introduction to be an internationally illegal and unfriendly act."

At the same time, the two countries agreed to expand their cooperation in the defense and energy sectors.
