Maxim Oreshkin (pictured), the economic advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated on Monday that the national economy may enter the top five on the global scale in terms of purchasing power parity as early as this year.
Speaking at a youth educational forum, he cited the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) projections for this year as the basis for his claim. If that happens, the next challenge for Russia will be to remain on the list of the world's five largest economies, Oreshkin added.
Russia's former minister for economic development also estimated that the economic recovery would be finalized and the pre-pandemic levels of employment and industrial production would be regained next year.
