Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told Tass that changes to Russia's nuclear doctrine will be implemented as "necessary" and have already been "practically formulated."
His comments come shortly after it was reported by several media outlets that the United States, France, and the United Kingdom gave the green light to Ukraine to use Western-supplied long-range weapons systems for strikes on Russian territory. Even though there was no official confirmation from Washington, Paris, or London, Moscow already denounced the act, warning it may lead to World War III.
In September, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia would amend its nuclear doctrine to allow for the possibility of a nuclear response to aggression from a non-nuclear state backed by a nuclear state which would be regarded as a joint attack. At the same time, Putin emphasized nuclear weapons would only be used in extreme situations to preserve Russia's sovereignty and security.
