Asian stocks surge on tariff pause news

Markets in Asia-Pacific rallied on Monday after the administration of United States President Donald Trump announced it would be pausing tariffs on certain electronics devices, including smartphones, computers and semiconductors. Although first reported as a tariff exemption, the Trump administration explained consumer electronics will be targeted by semiconductor levies set to be announced "over the next week."

Japan's Nikkei 225 jumped 1.95% at 7:01 am CET. The dollar declined 0.35% against the yen to go for 143.01 at 7:02 am CET.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng soared 2.51% at 7:03 am CET. In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite gained 0.79% at 7:02 am CET and the Shenzhen Composite was up 1.16% at 7:04 am CET.

In South Korea, the Kospi added 0.88% at 7:04 am CET, while Australia's S&P/ASX 200 climbed 1.36% at the same time.
