United States President Donald Trump signed on Wednesday the US-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) free trade agreement into law, replacing the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) that was in effect since 1994.

The deal was ratified in the US House of Representatives on December 19 last year and in the Senate on January 16. The ratification process in Mexico concluded on December 12, 2019, while in Canada, it was disrupted by recent elections and was only reintroduced to the parliament on Monday with months of procedures expected. The trade agreement will come into force 90 days after it is ratified in Ottawa.

The USMCA was negotiated in 2018 and signed on November 30 in the same year by Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexico's President Enrique Peña Nieto.
