South Korea's Trade Minister Cheong In-kyo (pictured) said on Monday that his country is "fully prepared" to respond to United States President Donald Trump's reciprocal tariffs, which are set to take effect on April 2.

"We are continuously negotiating to protect our industries' interests against US tariff measures. We are also fully prepared to respond to the US announcement on April 2," Cheong said during the 14th Export Support Task Force meeting at LG Science Park in Seoul.

The South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy also stated that the country's government will explore alternative markets, particularly in Global South economies, to address the "growing trend of protectionism among major economies."
