Russia announced on Thursday that it will initiate the procedure to formally withdraw from the military-technical cooperation treaty signed with Germany in 1996, according to a statement by the country's Foreign Ministry.

The treaty "has lost its meaning and practical significance in the current conditions and is absolutely inconsistent with the current state of Russian-German interstate relations," the ministry declared. Moreover, Moscow accused Berlin of "increasingly aggressive militaristic aspirations."

German authorities were also slammed for "provoking the aggravation of the military and political situation," with the ministry also observing that "the results of Germany's military adventures are well known."
