Russian Foreign Ministry expressed on Friday its concerns in relation to the latest deal between the United States and South Korea, labeled the "Washington Declaration," which will increase military cooperation and information sharing between the two with the creation of a "Nuclear Consultative Group."
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed in a statement that the agreement will "negatively affect regional and global stability," calling on Washington to abandon actions that could lead to the weakening of the overall security level. "The further dissemination of such practices by the collective West will bring nothing but the escalation of tension, spurring crisis ... and provoking an arms race," she said.
During South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol's visit to the US, the two countries agreed to "engage in deeper, cooperative decision-making on nuclear deterrence" in order to fend off North Korea's threats.
