Russia's presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov (pictured) said on Wednesday that potential new sanctions against the country which the United States is considering could be detrimental to the world economy.
Peskov expressed hope that the US would give up on imposing further sanctions on Russia as they would possibly harm both, the relations between the two countries and the global energy market. Despite stating Russia may experience “some negative consequences” if new measures were taken by the US, Peskov claimed that Moscow would “find appropriate compensatory measures to minimize any possible damage.”
“The Russian economy and the Russian energy sector have proved over the last two years that they stand firmly on their feet, that this is a very flexible and strong system with a fair margin of safety,” he noted.
On Tuesday, several US senators proposed a bill on a new set of sanctions against Moscow for its alleged meddling in the US presidential election and hacking activities.
