Russian Ambassador to Japan Mikhail Galuzin urged Japanese authorities on Tuesday "to take a sober and realistic approach, to stop the dismantling of Russian-Japanese ties" pointing out that the sanctions Tokyo has placed on Moscow "does not provide any benefits to Japan itself."
The ambassador highlighted that the persistence of the sanctions imposed by the government of Japan places further strain on bilateral ties between the two nations, further delaying the restoration of normal relations, calling recent decisions by Tokyo "unfriendly, short-sighted and counterproductive." Galuzin underscored that such steps will not obstruct Russian military operation in Ukraine, stressing that the country's economy "will continue to withstand all these restrictions."
Earlier today, Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida instructed the country's Finance Minister Shunichi Suzuki, Economy Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura, and Defense Minister Seiichi Hamada in an online meeting, to keep cooperating with the international community, including the G7 on implementing sanctions against Russia and supporting Ukraine.
