The next presidential election in Russia will be held on March 17, 2024, the Federal Assembly's upper chamber, the Federation Council, announced on Thursday.

Russian senators, senior members of the Federation Council Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State Building, told state-run media outlets that the announcement also practically means that the election campaign can begin today. The Central Election Commission has the option to allow multi-day voting, senators revealed.

In a separate statement, Central Election Commission Chair Ella Pamfilova clarified that remote voting abroad in the 2024 election will not be possible due to the policies of western countries.
