Turnout in Russia's presidential election has surpassed the figures recorded in 2018, reaching 67.54% on Sunday, with several hours left before polls close.
The state news agency TASS reported the development, indicating a higher voter engagement compared to the 67.5% turnout observed in the previous presidential election.
The highest turnout in a modern Russian presidential election remains at 74.7%, achieved in June 1991. Putin, who rose to power in 1999, is on the verge of winning a new six-year term that, if completed, would allow him to surpass Josef Stalin and become Russia's longest-serving politician in more than 200 years.
