Russian watchdog says 'no grounds' to unblock Twitter

Russia's Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (Roskomnadzor) stated that there is no basis to reinstate the platform Twitter Inc. in the country, TASS reported on Tuesday.

According to Roskomnadzor's reply on the issue, "there are no grounds for unblocking the mentioned resource [Twitter]." The agency added that "the specified request has not been received," while state media previously reported that the State Duma deputy petitioned the watchdog to lift the ban following the change in the company's ownership.

Last month, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the social media giant owned by billionaire Elon Musk will have to comply with Russian law if it wants the restrictions imposed against it for the alleged spreading of "fake reports" to be lifted.
