South Korea's Acting President Han Duck-soo said on Monday that United States President Donald Trump "apparently" ordered his administration to "immediately" launch tariff negotiations with Seoul, as well as Japan and India.

"We have been assessing the current situation in the US through public-private joint efforts and have explained in detail to President Trump our position on how and at what point negotiations should proceed. President Trump was also very satisfied," Han stated during a meeting with government officials and large business executives and added that he will speak directly to Trump if "necessary."

The move comes after Trump temporarily lowered "reciprocal" tariffs for most countries to 10% for 90 days to allow them time to reach an agreement.
