S. Korea's acting president 'heartbroken' by plane crash

Acting President of South Korea Choi Sang-mok led a disaster control meeting after the Jeju Air Boeing plane which was carrying 181 crashed and exploded killing 179 people and injuring two, according to a report by Yonhap.

The president stated that his "heart aches" for the victims of the crash, acknowledging that the tragedy comes amid economic hardships for the people of South Korea. Choi promised that the government "will transparently disclose the progress of the investigation into the accident, even before the final results are released, and keep the bereaved families informed," pledging to commit all available resources to aid the families impacted by the accident as well as the people injured in the crash.

A seven-day mourning period has been declared in the country, and memorial altars are planned for the crash site and several cities, including the capital.
