China calls on US to stop cyberattacks

EPA/ADRIAN BRADSHAW

Chinese Foreign ministry representative Zhao Lijian stated on Monday that the United States needs to take greater responsibility in the cyberspace domain and immediately cease all cyberattacks against China.

Characterizing the US as a "hacker empire," Zhao expressed great concern over cyberattacks being launched from the country, which use China as a medium to assault the participant states in the Ukraine crisis.

The Chinese Xinhua agency previously reported that foreign hackers are aiming to take control of China's network systems to conduct cyberattacks on Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, of which 87% are directed towards Moscow. According to the agency, the greatest part of the attacks came from the US, while the rest can be traced to Germany, the Netherlands and other EU countries.
