South Korea's Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok (pictured) proposed raising the size of a planned extra budget to 12 trillion won ($8.43 billion) to address the "most pressing issues" the country is facing, according to Yonhap.
Speaking during a meeting with ministers handling economic affairs, Choi explained that the funds would focus on disaster recovery, boosting trade and artificial intelligence (AI) competitiveness and supporting public welfare.
The revised amount is about 2 trillion won more than initially suggested.
