Unionized workers of Samsung Electronics Co. launched a three-day general strike on Monday after talks with management broke down, AFP reported.
"The strike has started from today," Son Woo-mok, head of the National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU), told the news agency. The NSEU, which has about 28,000 members, staged a one-day walkout in June, the first such unionized action at the company. Management at the firm has been locked in negotiations over wages and benefits with the union since January, but the two sides failed to come to an agreement.
"This strike is not just about improving working conditions, it is about taking back our rights that have been ignored so far," the union said in an appeal sent out to members last week.
