South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced on Wednesday in a statement that the country conducted joint trilateral military exercises with Washington and Tokyo, in the international waters of the East Sea (Sea of Japan in Japan).
The focus of the exercises was on "practicing procedures to detect, track and intercept computer-simulated targets, and share related information," the official body noted. "Through the maritime missile defense exercise this time, the South, the US and Japan strengthened security cooperation and further solidified their response systems," JCS concluded.
This was the second round of military drills, coming after North Korea fired two ballistic missiles, which alarmed the countries in the region and their allies.
