The Republic of Korea Marine Corps (ROKMC) and the United States Marine Corps took part in a joint regular exercise in Pohang, Yonhap reported on Thursday, citing the ROKMC.
The goal of the exercise, which is a part of the US Marine Corps' Korean Marine Exercise Program, is to improve the combined combat capabilities of the two countries, with 400 South Korean and US Marines involved in the drills. The drills will last for three weeks and will consist of the utilization of various amphibian vehicles, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), K1A2 tanks as well as South Korean and US helicopters.
"Our continued alliance with the ROKMC is crucial to regional security and stability," US Marine Corps Major Joshua Burchfield said, referring to the joint drills, according to the news agency.
