The Korean Meteorological Administration (KMA) cautioned on Monday that the tsunami expected to follow the 7.5-magnitude earthquake that hit Japan's west coast will likely result in a rise in sea levels off South Korea's east coast.
The agency warned that a tsunami could reach the country's eastern cities of Gangneung and Pohang around 7 pm local time. The KMA also estimated that the tsunami will be under 50 centimeters in height in South Korea, but warned that it could increase as it nears the coast.
Japan's Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning in all western regions of the country. Namely, the first tsunami with a height of 1 meter and 20 centimeters was observed in Wajima City in Ishikawa Prefecture.
