South Korea will hold a presidential election on June 3, acting President Han Duck-soo confirmed on Tuesday, declaring the election day a temporary public holiday, Yonhap News Agency reported.
Han said the date was set after consultations with the National Election Commission and related agencies. "I sincerely apologize for causing confusion and worries to the people over the past four months," Han said, referring to the power vacuum since Yoon's suspension.
The announcement came after the nation's Constitutional Court upheld the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, who declared martial law in December, triggering the need for a new election within 60 days.
