New Acting South Korean President, deputy prime minister and minister of economy and finance, Choi Sang-mok, called on Friday for the military to be on "high alert" in response to potential provocations from North Korea.
Choi assumed the presidency earlier today following the impeachment of former acting President Han Duck-soo. Han had taken over after Yoon Suk-yeol was impeached on December 14 due to his declaration of martial law earlier in the month.
In a statement, Han Duck-soo expressed his "respect" for the impeachment decision and indicated that he will await the "swift and wise" Constitutional Court's ruling on the matter, according to Yonhap.
