Alan Gagloyev, the president of the partially recognized South Ossetia, which most countries consider a part of Georgia, declared on Monday the territory will be temporarily suspending the previously announced referendum on joining Russia.
According to the announcement published on the president's website, the referendum will take place after the two sides complete consultations about the integration of South Ossetia into Russia.
Gagloyev's predecessor Anatoly Bibilov previously scheduled the referendum for July 17.
