The United States Supreme Court said on Thursday that applicants for a license to conceal carry a gun don't need a "proper cause" to do so, overturning a New York state law.
Six conservative judges voted against the law that restricted the right to carry arms found in the Second Amendment to the Constitution, while three voted for tighter gun control.
The ruling comes as Congress prepares to introduce the first major gun-safety legislation in more than 30 years in response to mass shootings across the US this year that left dozens of people dead and many more injured.
