The United States Supreme Court rejected former President Donald Trump's attempt to block White House records from being released and obtained by a bipartisan select House committee handling the Capitol riot probe.
Trump's legal team filed the lawsuit to block the panel's request for the National Archives to release White House documents, by invoking executive privilege. "Because the Court of Appeals concluded that President Trump's claims would have failed even if he were the incumbent, his status as a former President necessarily made no difference to the court's decision," the high court said in its ruling.
The committee is seeking the documents as part of its investigation into the incident that occurred on January 6 last year, when a group of Trump supporters breached the Capitol while Congress was in session.
