Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar told United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert on Wednesday that his country is committed to upholding the ceasefire agreement that entails the full withdrawal of Israeli troops from southern Lebanon by January 26.
"I emphasized that Israel is committed to implementing the ceasefire agreement, but will not compromise on its security. There is an opportunity for Lebanon to break free from the Iranian occupation and build a better future," Saar said in a post on X, commenting on his meeting with the US envoy.
Under the ceasefire agreement, once the Israeli forces withdraw from the southern part of Lebanon, the Lebanese Army will deploy its troops in the area, along with the international peacekeepers. UN Undersecretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix said on Saturday that the Lebanese forces increased their activity in the area, but noted continued activity by the Israeli Defense Force (IDF), as well.
