German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that a third world war, which would likely include the use of nuclear weapons, must be avoided amid the conflict in Ukraine.
In an interview with Spiegel published on Friday, Scholz reiterated that Berlin is ready to provide more weapons to Ukraine to help it fight Russia but insisted NATO should not get involved in the conflict by establishing a no-fly zone over the country. "Anything that can still be made available, we will definitely deliver," he added.
"Introducing a no-fly zone would make NATO a party to the war," the German chancellor stated. "I have long said that we must do everything possible to avoid a direct military confrontation between NATO and a well-armed country like Russia, which also has nuclear weapons. I do everything to prevent an escalation leading to a third world war. There should be no nuclear war," he insisted.
