Outgoing German Chancellor Olaf Scholz echoed on Thursday the sentiment of other European leaders, denouncing United States tariffs and calling them "fundamentally wrong."

"This is an attack on a trade order that has created prosperity all over the globe, a trade order that is essentially the result of American efforts," Scholz mentioned during a press conference.

He underlined that Europe will respond "appropriately and proportionately." He added that even if the European Union did nothing, the US economy would still be hit with problems due to tariffs.
